Problem Statement
Final Boss
Points: 1000 (the highest point value in the entire challenge!)
After completing challenges worth 100, 150, 300, and even 500 points, the Final Boss promised to be the ultimate test of programming skills.
With 1000 points on the line, expectations were high. What could possibly be worth so many points?
A complex distributed systems challenge? A real-time algorithm under strict time constraints? Perhaps a multi-part puzzle combining everything we learned?
The Solution
When you navigate to the Final Boss challenge page and start the challenge...
You Just Got Rickrolled 🕺
That's right. The "Final Boss" worth 1000 points was a rickroll.
The legendary Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up in all its glory.
Why This Is Actually Brilliant
The AltScore team pulled off one of the most classic internet pranks as the grand finale of their programming challenge. Here's why it's genius:
Perfect expectations subversion: After grinding through increasingly difficult challenges, the anticlimax is hilarious
Community building: Everyone who completed the challenge shares this experience and the laughs
Internet culture: Rickrolling is a timeless tradition that spans decades of internet history
Easy points: If you made it this far, you deserve some free points!
The Rickroll Legacy
For those unfamiliar with the meme:
- Origin: The rickroll started in 2007 on 4chan
- The song: "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley (1987)
- Peak views: The original video has over 1.5 billion views
- Still going strong: Even in 2025, rickrolling remains a beloved internet tradition
Lessons Learned
- Don't take everything too seriously - Sometimes the journey is more important than the destination
- Appreciate developer humor - The AltScore team has a great sense of humor
- Expect the unexpected - In programming and in life
Final Thoughts
The AltScore Makers Challenge Season 1 was an incredible journey. From calculating orbital velocities to building API endpoints, from decoding Star Wars lore to navigating magical doors, each challenge taught something new.
And in the end, we all got rickrolled together.
Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down! 🎵
